Yoo Hee Yeol asks women in audience to spread their legs during recent concert

Musician Yoo Hee Yeol apologizes for his inappropriate comment during his most recent solo concert.

At noon on April 6th, Yoo Hee Yeol shared his thoughts and gratitude on TOY’s official homepage. He left a message titled, “I’m really thankful to all.. every one of you.” This heartfelt apology letter was written in response to his inappropriate remark made during his recent concert. From April 2nd to April 4th, he held his solo concert, Da Capo, at Olympic Park’s Gymnasium in Seoul. On the second night of his concert, he mentioned, “And so that I can get the energy for the concert… can all the ladies sitting in the front spread their legs? .. Don’t get me wrong, it just means that I want you to be open-minded while listening to the songs. Do you hear me?” Despite being a joke, such remarks have appalled some audience members.

Yoo Hee Yeol mentioned in his letter, “Although the concert was a place for our gathering, some of you may have felt uncomfortable regarding my thoughtless and unbecoming actions and comments.. tonight is one filled with regrets. I am ashamed to have only just realized that words can be powerful enough to destroy long cherished memories. I deeply apologize.”

He continued, “However, thanks to all of you, I was able to complete the concert. It was the time of my life that I could never have imagined. I can’t really grasp that it actually happened even until now.. I feel like it might have been a dream. When I first prepared for the concert, I wondered if this was achievable… if this would only cause inconvenience to people around me.. I have nothing special, in fact, I’m not even good at singing, but whatever good karma I had in the past… whenever I look around, there are always inspiring and good people supporting me. I’m always so thankful and sorry.”
