6 K-Pop Songs You NEVER Knew Contained Samples

In music, sampling is a common practice and it is no different in K-Pop.

Sampling is taking a portion or snippet of a pre-existing song and reusing it as an instrument, a separate sound or as a whole – in a different song.

These 6 K-Pop songs everybody knows, actually use samples! Hear the original samples and discover where these songs got their samples.

1. BIGBANG – “How Gee”

The sample in “How Gee” can be heard right as soon as the song starts. The sample is from Black Machine‘s same-titled “How Gee” and it also appears as soon the song starts.

2. SHINee – “Replay”

The sample in “Replay” can be heard 22 seconds into the song. The sample is from Lucy Pearl‘s “Dance Tonight” and the sample starts at the 40-second mark.

3. SISTAR – “Touch My Body”

The sample in “Touch My Body” can be heard 8 seconds into the song. The sample is not from a song but a scene from a movie.

The sample is from the 1986 Holywood film, Aliens. In the movie, Private Vasquez screams and that’s the sample that appears in “Touch My Body.”

4. BTS – “Born Sinner”

The sample in “Born Singer” can be heard 5 seconds into the song and again at the 30-second mark.

The sample is from J. Cole‘s same-titled “Born Sinner” and the sample appears as soon the song starts and later at the 1-minute 12-second mark of the song.

5. Beenzino – “Dali, Van, Picasso”

The sample in “Dali, Van, Picasso” can be heard right as soon as the song starts. The sample is from Chet Baker‘s “Alone Together” and it also appears as soon the song starts.

6. Zico & Paloalto – “Turtle Ship ft. Ja Mezz, Andup, Mino”

The sample in “Turtle Ship” can be heard at the start of the song and throughout until the end.

The sample is from a sample pack called “Oriental Samples” from a now defunct sample pack company. Before it went defunct, Zico and many artists used the samples in the sample pack to create various songs.

Below is an electronic song by Qulinez which also uses the same sample in “Turtle Ship.” The song is called “Hookah” and the sample appears 42 seconds into the song.
