BTS Becomes First & Only Group This Century To Extend Billboard #1 Debut For A Second Week With “Dynamite”

They’re taking Korean music to unprecedented new international heights.

BTS‘s #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart last week was one of the biggest international achievements for K-Pop to date. Of course, in true BTS fashion, the group didn’t just stop there. Today, September 8, they’ve extended their record—and set a new one—as “Dynamite” official sits atop the chart for the second week in a row.

Last week, BTS made headlines across the world as they became the first and only South Korean act to reach #1 on Billboard with the English-language single, “Dynamite”. Now, they’re scored the achievement for the second week in a row.

Nielsen Music data reports that “Dynamite” received 182,000 downloads in the U.S. between August 28 and September 3, alongside 17.5 million digital streams. In the week ending September 6, the song also reached 16 million radio listeners, up 38% from the previous week’s figure of 11.6 million.

But this achievement isn’t just another major step for BTS as Korean artists. It also makes them the first and only group of the 21st century to debut at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and stay there for a second consecutive week.

The only other group in history to achieve this is Aerosmith with “Don’t Wanna Miss A Thing” in 1998, over two decades ago. The remaining 18 songs on the highly exclusive list are all by solo acts.

Unsurprisingly, ARMYs are elated at the new record. Within an hour after the announcement, #BTS2ndNo1OnHot100 reached #1 on Twitter’s worldwide trends while “DYNAMITE CELEBRATION” peaked at #2.

And, judging by their Twitter update, BTS themselves are equally elated!

ARMYs are eagerly awaiting next week’s Billboard Hot 100 chart update to see if BTS can keep up their streak. According to predictions, the song needs around 100,000 sales to beat out Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion‘s “WAP” again.
