“Dynamite”, BTS‘s latest release and first all-English song, continues to break records and make impressive achievements in the week following its August 21 debut.
One of the group’s goals for this comeback was to break more into the American market, and one of their methods of doing so was to appeal to American radio shows to convince them to play the song on the radio. This has been something that few K-Pop groups have focused on in the past, though it seems to be paying off.
According to Billboard, the song has had over 2,300 plays on American radio to date, the most plays in the first week by BTS, which has landed it on the #30 place on their Pop Songs radio airplay chart this week of August 29.
The previous record was also held by them, for the song “Boy With Luv” that came out last April. That song debuted at #35 on the Pop Songs radio airplay chart, with about 1,230 plays.
They have also had a couple other songs make it onto the chart in the past as well, including “Mic Drop”, which placed #37 in 2018, and “Fake Love”, which also placed in 2018 at #38.
The hope is that placing so high on this chart will help BTS land a higher debut position on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, which takes into consideration album sales, streams, and, yes, airplays on the radio. Their current record on this list is #4, which “ON” reached back in March of this year.
Having already made a new record for the number of MV views in 24 hours (101.1 million on YouTube), reached the #1 spot on iTunes‘ Top Songs chart in 100 countries, and topped the main Global Top 50 chart on Spotify, this just adds another accomplishment onto a long list for “Dynamite”!
