When BTS created their own Instagram accounts at the end of last year, they went through the exact process as anyone and had the tough decision to pick their username.
Each of the members picked a username that was either obvious or had a hidden meaning, and one of the most unique was none other than J-Hope‘s, which is @uarmyhope!
Although most of the members are constantly active on the social media platform, J-Hope has constantly been treating ARMYs to updates and even interacting with his members. For many, @uarmyhope was the perfect name for someone who has been dubbed the “Happy Virus” of the group.
Yet, many ARMYs wondered where the name came from, and J-Hope revealed it all during his birthday VLIVE. During the broadcast, J-Hope showcased his cake which had his username on it, which was written in pale pink writing.
When it came to choosing the ID, J-Hope explained the thought process that went into picking it. As expected, J-Hope wanted to channel his creativity and pick something meaningful.
I kept thinking about what ID I should choose. When I finally decided to start an Instagram account, I kept thinking on which ID I should decide on.
As expected, it wasn’t something he thought about alone. J-Hope explained that a lot of thought and talk between the members happened when it came to choosing, and they initially wanted to keep it simple.
We all talked about it, and we said that it would be best to use our names for the IDs. And someone said something about RM, and someone came up with another idea. But when we tried, we found out that you can’t make an ID with less than five letters.
After finding out some of the rules for the Instagram usernames, it shocked BTS when Jin finally made his using @jin. He then explained that he was so shocked about it when it happened and was like, “Wow.”
Of course, when this plan didn’t work for everyone, J-Hope knew that he wanted to create something meaningful and that had his name.
So, I thought about it and decided on this one. I’m your hope, you’re my hope, I’m J-Hope. I saw this as my greeting often.
Obviously, Instagram doesn’t always make things easy.
J-Hope then explained that the thought process wasn’t as simple, especially when it came to formatting the username to work for the platform. At first, he tried “Imyourhope,” but it wasn’t right, and eventually, the final decision was made, but not without some trial and error.
I tried ‘U’ and then ‘are,’ and it worked. So, then I added ‘my’ and it just worked out from there. Then I thought about adding an under bar in between ‘uarmyhope’ or not. But, at the end, I decided with the version without anything.
There is no denying that it is the perfect nickname for J-Hope, and he’s definitely been the “hope” for so many ARMYs worldwide. His posts and interactions on Instagram continue to bring love and enjoyment to fans, and we couldn’t imagine life without it.
