As the years go by, more and more celebrities are revealing their children are BTS fans—from Penthouse star Eugene to American actress Gabrielle Union. In a recent appearance on tvN‘s travel-reality show Honeymoon Tavern, actress Kim Hee Sun (who you may know from SBS‘s 2020 sci-fi K-Drama Alice) revealed her daughter is an ARMY too—but here’s why she’s concerned about it.
While talking to visitors in the titular Honeymoon Tavern, Kim Hee Sun revealed her daughter, Park Yeon Ah, is a big BTS fan. Yeon Ah, whose father is a businessman, is currently 12 years old, making her a sixth-grader in Korea.
Kim Hee Sun went on to reveal that Yeon Ah’s favorite member is “Golden Maknae” Jungkook—an excellent pick, ARMYs will agree. However, the actress also confessed that her daughter’s interest in BTS has become a concern for her.
“It’s not easy with [Yeon Ah] these days,” Kim explained, adding that her daughter seems to be going through puberty right now. After divulging that Yeon Ah is Jungkook-biased, Kim also noted, “I feel like she likes him way too much.”
While Kim Hee Sun herself doesn’t seem to know much about K-Pop fandom culture herself, the Honeymoon Tavern visitors explained a little more about her daughter’s behavior. When Kim told them Yeon Ah listens to the same BTS songs over and over again, the visitors explained it’s all part of the drive to boost streams and help the group become even more successful.
“Really? Is that why? She’s doing that for BTS?” Kim remarked when she learned the truth, adding that it explains why Yeon Ah is always telling her things like, “Mom, the new music video surpassed 100 million views just in a few hours!”
The actress and mother laughed as she continued confessing her daughter’s ARMY tendencies. She revealed that recently, when Yeon Ah kept referring to the BTS members as “our oppa,” Kim told her, “You have no oppa. You are our only child, Yeon Ah.”
Ultimately, while the visitors seemed to understand Yeon Ah’s plight as a dedicated ARMY a little better, Kim lightheartedly showed that she doesn’t really get her daughter’s fandom life. “I’m mean, if she wants to be ARMY that much, why doesn’t she just enlist in the army,” Kim Hee Sun said, “I want to send her to the military, you know.”
