They have won this category ever since its first appearance in 2019.

BTS has officially been awarded the “Best K-Pop” category for the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards.

The group went up against BLACKPINKMONSTA XTWICESEVENTEEN, and (G)I-DLE in the “Best K-Pop” category this year. This marks the third year in a row that BTS has won this award: “Boy With Luv” featuring Halsey won in 2019 and “ON” won in 2020.

The “Best K-Pop” category was first introduced in 2019 and was under fire for allegations of discrimination against Korean acts, as fans noticed BTS was not nominated for the main categories despite high commercial success. This year, however, BTS is nominated for 7 other categories, including “Song of the Year,” and they have won “Group of the Year.”
