KBS2 TV drama series Descendants of the Sun is quickly gaining popularity in China which seemed to have caused the government unease as they issued warnings against the alleged “dangers” of K-Dramas.
Descendants of the Sun is a 16-episode military drama in a fictional country and stars actors Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo as the leads. The drama is currently being simultaneously aired in both Korea and China with the latter being broadcast via the Chinese online platform iQIYI where views has hit more than 140 million cumulative views, a count that has already surpassed the popular 2014 drama My Love From Another Star.
And so, according to Korea Herald, China’s Ministry of Public Security posted a warning to its people on Weibo on March 12th, saying that exposure to K-Dramas may result by sharing extreme cases that has allegedly occurred including a couple who has divorced and a man who has gone through extreme plastic surgery to regain the heart of his wife, all due to Korean dramas.
