On October 29, Xports News released an official apology letter from the singer himself, which detailed the situation in its entirety. In the apology, the Korea’s Got Talent star formally apologized for “causing a social upheaval and a great disappointment over the controversy.”

He shared that while his “thyroid cancer, colorectal cancer, prostate cancer, and lung, liver, and kidney cancer diagnoses are false,” he has been suffering from “major depressive disorder and post traumatic stress disorder.”

The singer continued by revealing that his life has been “hellish,” as he takes “psychiatric medication every day for ten years, with the only one craving being [his] desire to sing.”

Previously, Choi Sung Bong shared in January of this year that he had been diagnosed with various types of cancers that had spread all over his body. Using the public’s sympathies for his favor, the singer then set up a fundraiser to raise money for his last album and his singing career.

However, it didn’t take long before reporter Lee Jin Ho began to accuse the Korea’s Got Talent runner-up of his falsehood, as he began to expose Choi Sung Bong’s alleged lies. The reporter raised suspicions of Choi Sung Bong wearing a fake hospital gown, as well as falsifying his hospital records.

Ever since, Choi Sung Bong has been in the negative spotlight, as he tried to prove his illness to the wavering public. This led to his abrupt decision to do a live stream of himself on a bridge, where he was rescued by emergency personnel.

I sincerely apologize for causing a social upheaval and a great disappointment over the ‘Choi Sung Bong’s fake cancer’ controversy that has been reported in the media. I have major depressive disorder and post traumatic stress disorder, but the diagnoses of thyroid cancer, colorectal cancer, prostate cancer, and lung, liver and kidney cancer are all false.

I was given the nickname ‘icon of hope’ for the past 10 years since the airing of ‘Korea’s Got Talent’ back in 2011. I deeply apologize and bow my head to the cancer patients who are still living in pain. I also apologize to the bereaved families who have lost loved ones to cancer.

Up until now, I have endured by taking psychiatric medication every day for ten years, with the only one craving being my desire to sing. But in reality, my life has been hellish. I live everyday with depression and scars.

I sincerely thank and apologize to everyone who has cared for me for the past 10 years. I hope that you can believe the sincerity that I have in my desire to sing. I will not give up my dreams of singing. I will reflect on my life and live a low key lifestyle.

I am currently working at a local restaurant in an effort to pay back the donations I have received.
