On August 18, it was reported by numerous news sources that Seungri would be appealing his prison sentence.
Seungri’s legal representative shared a short statement with Maeil Business Star Today, revealing that “there are plans to appeal.” The former idol’s appeal doesn’t come as a surprise, according to Maeil Business Star Today. During the trial, which lasted for over 10 months, Seungri continuously denied the allegations that were made against him. According to the news reports, the former idol’s constant denials were a clear indication that he never had any intention of accepting the judge’s sentencing.
While the appeal has not yet been filed, Seungri and his legal team will have up to 10 days from his sentencing date to submit a formal appeal.
Previously, the former BIGBANG member was sentenced to 3 years in prison for his participation in the Burning Sun scandal that took place back in 2019. The former idol was indicted on 9 different charges, including mediating prostitution, embezzlement, distributing illegally filmed content, gambling, and others.
After two years and a 10 month long trial, Seungri was sentenced to 3 years in prison and a fine of ₩11 hundred million KRW ($945,074 USD) for mediating prostitution, shocking the entire K-Pop industry.
