TWICE Shares How They Overcame Their Internal Worries to Find Happiness in Singing

“When you do something that makes you happy, it makes people watching you happy.”

When an aspiring singer from the audience asked how she can continue to find the strength to carry on pursuing the line of career, TWICE‘s Nayeon and Jihyo shared their most personal and genuine advice and touched the viewers’ hearts.

The guest from the audience started off her question by stating, “I’m the happiest when I sing. It makes me feel amazing when people listen to my voice.”

“But no matter how much fun you are having, you can’t help that sometimes everything feels frustrating — like you’re going down the wrong path. Have do you overcome something like that?”

— Guest

Nayeon deeply related to the guest, because Nayeon also started singing purely out of her love for it.

“I also chose this path because I loved to sing and perform on stage. Throughout the 6-7 years I trained though, I began to see people who are far more talented than I am. Watching them, I started to think I’ll never be as good as they are no matter how much I practice. That kind of attitude really got me down… What was worse, I started to admit that is as far as I can get, that I’m not ever going to get better. This really put a stop on my growth too.”

— Nayeon

Nayeon had trouble shaking this negative attitude off, but she focused on letting it go. To continue improving, Nayeon realized she had to stop comparing herself to others.

“I decided not to compare myself to anyone. I let that go. That was really difficult to do, but I tried. Since then, I’ve been feeling a lot better about myself and I’ve been slowly maturing into a better artist. It’s not going to be easy, but let go. Just have the faith in yourself and push. You’re doing this for yourself.”

— Nayeon

Jihyo, who has been a trainee for a decade before she got to debut with TWICE, had much to add for the guest as well.

“I was in training for 10 years before I got to become anything. That kind of time makes you think if you’ll ever make it out of there. I was beginning to wonder if singing is even the right kind of career for me. But I met TWICE and I got to debut! I thought that was the end of my troubles, I thought I would be extremely happy.”

— Jihyo

Jihyo said, even after debuting, she had so much to stress about.

“I wasn’t, though. I was worried because I was suddenly a main vocalist on the team. I couldn’t help but think about all the eyes watching and the ears listening… I was really confused, until the first TWICE concert.”

— Jihyo

During TWICE’s concert, Jihyo felt for the first time what it means to move people with her voice. Jihyo assured the guest, who already knows that sense of happiness and accomplishment, that it is that sensation that will pull her through.

“I sang and it made my fans happy. It was the first time I felt anything like that. You, on the other hand, know that feeling already. That’s going to be your strength. You said it already makes you happy. When you do something that makes you happy, it makes people watching you happy. I really want you to remember this.”

— Jihyo

Upon hearing the TWICE girls’ heartfelt advice, the guest had tears in her eyes. Fans became immensely proud of the girls who were able to overcome all that dragged them down to become the successful global K-Pop divas they are now.
