This World Map Shows Which K-Pop Groups Are The Most Popular In Each Country

This is the first time global popularity of K-Pop groups has been quantified

Fandom Lab Blip has unveiled the results after analysing data from 76 K-Pop groups from July 2018 to July 2019.

After collating the data, a K-Pop world map has been created where fans can see which countries their favourite groups are most popular in.

Blip analysed clicks per capita for each city, as well as YouTube data for the basis of their results.

It was highlighted that this is the first time that an indication of the global popularity of K-Pop groups has been quantified.

Firstly, in terms of interest in K-Pop as a whole, the study gave evidence that K-Pop is truly popular in every corner of the world.

While K-Pop’s popularity was strongest in East Asia, it has garnered attention in every continent, particularly in Europe and North America.

In North America and Europe, the most popular groups is BTS, followed by BLACKPINK, TWICE and EXO.

In Asia, the most popular group is BLACKPINK followed closely by BTS, TWICE, MOMOLAND and EXO.

The study found that the five most popular K-Pop groups around the world are BTS, BLACKPINK, TWICE, MOMOLAND and EXO.

Meanwhile, 54.3% of searches, clicks and views went to all other groups, showing that there is much room for other K-Pop groups to gain interest.

This was all combined into a world map that showed several countries and the most popular K-Pop group in each of them.

Super Junior was concluded as the most popular group in Mexico, thanks to their successful push into Latin America, starting with “Lo Siento” featuring Leslie Grace.

Meanwhile, MOMOLAND is the most popular group in Vietnam, where they volunteered for several days during their debut year as PR ambassadors for the International Relief Development NGO Plan Korea.

TWICE’s massive success in Japan is underlined here as they are the most popular K-Pop group across the Korea Strait.

BLACKPINK is the most popular in several Southeast Asian countries, specifically Indonesia, Philippines and Lisa’s home country Thailand.

BTS is the most popular in Peru, France, UK, Germany and USA, where they are the only group since the Beatles to celebrate three No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200 within one year.

All in all, it will be interesting to see how other indicators of popularity compare and how data is collected to analyse trends and shifts in K-Pop.
