Yang Hyun Suk comments on YG Entertainments alleged tense relationship with Mnet

With the exclusion of iKON from Mnet‘s M! Countdown charts, it certainly feels like there’s tension rising between YG Entertainment and Mnet, but Yang Hyun Suk says otherwise.

During the press conference of iKON’s debut and first solo concert SHOW TIME held on October 3rd, Yang Hyun Suk met with several media reporters.

When asked about whether iKON will be making appearances on M! Countdown despite, Yang Hyun Suk answered, “For the time being, there’s no plans for iKON to appear. There’s no time for them to. They will be going to Japan to promote next week. So it’s really because of their schedule,” emphasizing that iKON’s absence on next week’s show is not due to conflict with Mnet.

Regarding a previous interview about iKON’s exclusion from Mnet earlier this week, he replied, “I acted that way because it didn’t make sense. It doesn’t make sense that we are taken out from the ranking because we didn’t participate in the broadcasting. This is the first time I encountered such a thing in 20 years of being a producer.”

When asked by a reporter whether the relationship between YG and Mnet were bad, the CEO said, “Our relationship with Mnet is good. Just because we’re close does not mean that we cannot criticize. Taking them out of the ranks just because they chose to perform their debut at a different showcase does not make sense.”

Regarding a future appearance by iKON on M! Countdown, Yang Hyun Suk said, “We are considering (appearances in November).”

iKON will make their first televised debut performance on SBS’s Inkigayo on October 4th.
