Known for her soulful yet gentle voice, Baek Yerin has always impressed with her singing and songwriting abilities. Her new album, however, is creating quite a buzz amongst netizens for a rather different reason this time around. While Baek Yerin revealed that she wants to connect with her international fans through her English album, netizens still can’t seem to figure out why a Korean singer would release an entire album in English.

This is not the first time that Baek Yerin released an album entirely in English. She released Every letter I sent you back in 2019, which received an incredible amount of positive feedback. The album swept music charts, climbing to the number 1 spot on multiple sites. It seems that releasing another one, however, rubbed K-netizens the wrong way. There have been numerous comments questioning her intent as a Korean singer releasing yet another English album. Here’s what netizens had to say.

I really like Baek Yerin as an artist but this album is really disappointing. These songs are ruined because of her awkward English lyrics and it’s a waste. Baek Yerin is amazing at expressing herself through Korean lyrics but with awkward English lyrics, you don’t get the same vibe. To those of you saying ‘but her English is fine’ think about it…if people spell certain Korean words wrong, you get upset. You have to realize that her English is just not that good. I heard she learned it on her own but it’s weird. The album is just emotional. I can’t listen to ‘hate you’ because of the choppy lyrics.

Because of all the English lyrics, I get bored listening to her songs. I enjoyed her last English album and listened to it here and there but this one, I can’t listen to the songs more than once. I think I’ll just listen to ‘Bye Bye Blue’ for the first time in awhile.
