Song Joong Ki Reveals How “Vincenzo” And Director Kim Won Seok Changed His View Of Acting

He hopes to continue with what he learned going forward.

In the most recent issue of GQ Korea Magazine, actor Song Joong Ki graced the cover with his ageless beauty. In the interview that followed, he discussed just how much his recent K-Drama Vincenzo changed his viewpoint on acting and more.

When the interviewer complimented Song Joong Ki on Vincenzo reaching the sixth-highest ratings in tvN history and 4th on Netflix‘s drama rankings, he stayed humble. He told the interviewer that all the credit was for director Kim Hee Won, writer Park Jae Bum, and his co-stars.

Although, when he reflected on the experience, he did admit that he approached this series quite differently than all of his previous projects. He shared how his friend Arthdal Chronicles and My Mister director Kim Won Seok gave him some advice that completely changed his mindset.

Director Kim Won Seok, who knows me very well after working with me on Sungkyunkwan Scandal and Arthdal Chronicles, suddenly said this to me one day, ‘Joong Ki, don’t try to act this time in this new project. Just act like you normally do. Don’t go out of your way to do something. Go with the flow.’

He continued by saying that he took the advice to heart and tried extremely hard to put away his though and be relaxed and comforted during filming. He was grateful that the set allowed him to experiment like that.

He further explained that when he followed that advice, his experience in filming Vincenzo made him look at acting in an entirely different way.

I realized that positive energy and enjoying the process makes you immensely happy with the result. I want to continue to have fun while acting in the future.
